Barb Demarest came and worked with me and my dog, Acer. Acer is seven years old and a mixed breed. Acer is an excellent dog, but had three habits that I couldn't seem to get under control. First of all, no matter what type of collar I used with her, she would pull hard whenever we went on a walk. Also, when we saw another dog, Acer would lunge and bark and completely ignore any commands from me. The third irritating behavior was when someone came to the house for a visit, she would not leave them alone. She wanted to jump on them, lick them and bring them her toys to play. I had resorted to putting her in my room whenever anyone came to visit. Interestingly, the dog I had previously to Acer had these very same habits, so I realized that it must not be the dog misunderstanding and disobeying me but me not communicating well with the dog in the first place. So, when I heard that Barb would actually come to my house and work with us in our nomal setting, I was thrilled. Barb came and we got started. Right away, she realized Acer was a smart dog and overall a good dog so how could I not like Barb? First of all, we worked on leash walking. At that first session, Acer walked without pulling! Walking Acer now is wonderful. She still trots happily along and sniffs and enjoys herself, but my arm remains at my side and there is no pulling at all. We worked on Acer's reaction to other dogs. This was the most difficult part of the training because we think it stems from when she was attacked by another dog when she was about one year old. This was not an easy fix, but I was impressed with the multiple strategies Barb worked through until we came up with the one that worked. Barb solved the issue with visitors at that first session and it has worked beautifully whether I have one person or 15 people in my house. Acer behaves wonderfully and no longer has to be shut in my room until everyone is gone. I would wholeheartedly recommend Barb Demarest as a trainer for any kind of dog and any kind of difficulty. She really has the knowledge and the skills needed for the training and also a deep love of dogs. I am very grateful to her for her help in training us. I do mean "us", because it is not just the dog that needs to learn to communicate! Sarah M., Harrisburg, Pennsylvania
